LAHORE - The FIA Punjab Office has started preparing lists of corrupts officers/officials in the department with a commitment to take strict action if found involved, said well placed sources in FIA on Wednesday.

Panic has engulfed the FIA staff after a letter from DG FIA office was received in FIA Punjab Zonal office on Wednesday.

As per sources, the director general in a letter to all the Additional DGs and Zonal Directors said it was need of the hour to get corrupt and inefficient officers out of the department, in order to improve its efficiency and image.

The DG also ordered the officials to submit the list of such officers to his office by April 17, 2015.

The Zonal office has started preparing lists of such officials who had a history of corrupt practices: misuse of authority, partial investigations, links with criminal syndicates.

The DG also stressed upon naming those officials who are running their private businesses under the cover of their official positions.

Sources revealed there are certain officers who are involved in corruption but when their section head wanted to grill them against complainants they managed making the complainant withdraw his application. But officers also fall in corrupt category and their names would be forwarded to DG offices, they added.

A wave of fear has run among the FIA junior staff and they believe that only junior staff would be made scapegoat and the seniors would once again be exonerated.

An official seeking anonymity said that some senior officers were also involved in misusing vehicles while other facing charges of corruption were drawing heavy salaries while sitting at home.

FIA Director Dr Usman Anwar when contacted said, “Yes I am on it and my staff is busy preparing lists of such officers,”

To a question that how it would be possible to sift such officers in a short time when DG has sought report by April 17, he told this reporter the officers with poor performance were very much obvious to be pointed out.

The officer meanwhile claimed that no discriminatory treatment would be meted out to any official and senior officers found involved in corruption would also be taken to task.
