The rice mills owners of Jhang, Layyah, Chiniot and Toba Tek Singh districts took out a rally and staged a sit-in as a protest against the low cost of rice in the market.

The rally started from Station Chowk and marching through Nawaz Chowk, UBL Chowk and Nadra Chowk reached in front of Press Club Jhang. It was headed by Mukhtar Khan Baloch, the president of Rice Mills Association Jhang, and attended by Mian Azhar Hussain Khokhar, Haji Mian Abid Hussain, Chaudhry Nadeem, Malik Inamul Haq and other rice mills owners of different districts.

Addressing the participants, the speakers said that rice mills owners have been suffering huge losses due to low rates of rice. They said that the government was not making rice export policy. They further said that due to the carelessness of the government they had suffered heavy loss in the business and as a result, they did not have money to even pay the electricity bills and monthly dues of schools of their children.

They demanded that the government should announce new rice export policy. They also demanded subsidy on rice. They threatened that if their demands were not accepted, they would hold protest demonstrations in Lahore and Islamabad.
