ISLAMABAD - Senior sports organiser and international martial art master M Najam Khan has leveled serious allegations against Sindh Sports Board (SSB) terming it a house of corruption.

Talking to The Nation, Najam leveled allegations against SSB for embezzlement of funds and warned of a huge protest rally against them, if their genuine demands would not be met. “For the time being, we staged a protest, but it would be expanded with due course of time. Sindh sports organisers, office bearers of provincial sports associations and a large number of players have decided that the protest rally for the embezzlement and corruption in the sports funds, which were given for the promotion and development of sports in Sindh, by the provincial government, but all were wasted in conducting so-called events to mint all the money.”  “The SSB clerks have distributed different games among their families, and earn millions of rupees, which should have been the whole-sole right of the athletes and should be given to them who earn laurels for the province and country. We have since long contacted different high ups in this regard and tried to seek justice, but to no avail. Now we are left with no other option but to stage a protest rally and if required, we will stage sit-ins in front of Sindh CM and Governor Sindh until we get the justice,” Najam said.

“The funds were spent only in papers and nothing in reality was done for sports and athletes. All the major cities were treated like aliens, but Karachi was the most affected one. Recently, Pakistan Day was celebrated and sports programmes were also conducted by an unconcerned organisation, which had no sports background but they managed to get millions of rupees, which were not distributed through relevant sports organisers and associations,” he added. The rally staged protest first at Karachi Press Club and then went toward Governor House and Chief Minister House and also handed concerned authorities over the evidences of corruption and embezzlement in Sindh sports department. Najam demanded of Sindh Governor, Chief Minister and Provincial Sports Minister to take notice for these irregularities and arrest these persons who are involved in the matter.
