Islamabad - President Mamnoon Hussain has said that challenges to national security need to be addressed through a comprehensive and unified approach.

The president said this while chairing the 4th Meeting of the National Defence University (NDU) Senate here on Wednesday.

The president stated that Pakistan is going through difficult circumstances and is faced with multi-dimensional challenges. The president said that Pakistan Army is bravely fighting against militancy in tribal regions.

The president stated that NDU has the primary responsibility to study its impact and implications as being the principal think-tank on matters of defence and strategy at national level. The president congratulated NDU on establishing centres of excellence for counterterrorism and international law. The president expressed confidence that these centres will prove very useful in developing capacities and expertise in their respective fields. The president expressed hope that NDU would continue expanding its research and publication activities to provide input to the government and its policy-making institutions.
