New entry test policy within a week: Shuja

LAHORE - Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that govt will announce within a week the entry test policy for students who have passed Intermediate (Combined) Annual Examination-2008. He said that the new education policy is being formulated and will focus on provision of equal educational resources for all disciplines, to redress the situation with 70pc of the country's population still illiterate. He expressed these views while addressing the award-giving ceremony held under the aegis of BISE Lahore in honour of top position holders of the above examination at the Children Library Complex here on Friday. He lauded CM Shahbaz Sharif for declaring an emergency in the vital sector of education to ensure effective implementation of the 'Parha Likha Punjab' (literate Punjab) programme. The last regime had declared many such emergencies, but Shahbaz Sharif has ensured it in sectors where it is most needed, he added.  He also greeted the participants in connection with 61st Independence Day, and said "You deserve double felicitations as the present government will present you the gift of elimination of dictatorship from the country forever." Mujtaba felicitated the top position holding students, their parents and teachers, and expressed hope that they would excel in their respective fields in future as well, and earn a good name for Pakistan. Earlier, BISE Lahore chairman Maqsood Mumtaz presented the welcome address, while secretary Haji Umar Dogar and controller Dr Manzoor-ul-Hassan Niazi were also present.
