PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that in democracy political parties have to sacrifice in greater national interest while under dictatorship, the country pays the price. He said that PPP and PML-N have intentions to go together. He added the world supported a dictatorial rule and the aid during that time was used to strengthen that regime rather than the betterment of the people. He demanded the world to back a democratic set-up in the country. In an interview with a private TV channel on Friday, Zardari said that his party could have some differences with PML-N in future on various issues, but they would discuss and develop mutual consensus. He said the political forces had decided to set the country on the way to progress. Zardari further said that the MQM and PPP had decided not to be used against each other. He added that all institutions including the ISI to be run through the Parliament with Prime Minister as the head of the House. To a question, he said that he could not predict either Musharraf would step down or not before the impeachment proceedings began but the way ruling coalition had used its cards, everybody was asking why he was not going. About charge sheet against Pervez Musharraf, he said the things were under proceedings and would be revealed at a proper time. To a question about possible aftermaths of the proposed impeachment, he said, "It is the journey that matters, it doesn't matter what the result will be. Journey itself evolves and empowers the political forces of the country." The PPP leader said that he was not the candidate for Presidency, because he didn't want to be an opportunist. However, he said "I think, workers of the PPP just-fully demand for the next President from their party, as we are in majority, but any decision to this effect will be taken after consultation with coalition partners". He said that all judges including Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry would be restored soon. To a question about political role of his children, Zardari said that the country needed a leadership and he was training his children in this connection. "If they choose to take responsibility and feel to take the same route followed by their mother and grandfather, it would be up to them. In an interview with another private TV channel, Asif Zardari said that impeachment was carried out not only by the PPP but all the ruling partners took the step. He said that Musharraf had only two options, face the impeachment or step down. "If he faces impeachment in the Parliament, he would have to accept all the consequences", Zardari said. To a question, he said that there was no comparison between economic development of Malaysia and Pakistan, as institutions were ruined in Pakistan during the last eight years. He said that he, being a political leader, was in continues contact with the US and rest of the world, and America had recently stated to back Pakistani Parliament. The US support for democratic forces is not accidental, but an outcome of continuous contacts and dialogues. To a query, Asif Zardari said that it is up to the leadership of coalition partners and the people of Pakistan to decide the fate of President Musharraf after he is impeached. "I am too small a person to say something about safe passage to President Musharraf because there are seasoned and heavyweight politicians in the coalition" Zardari said, adding a decision to this affect would be made with the consensus of coalition partners. To a question, he said the murder of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto would be probed by the efficient experts under the supervision of United Nations and hopefully the facts would come on surface with the passage of time. He said the investigation of Benazir Bhutto's murder case would not be individual-specific. Zardari said that Justice Nasim Hassan Shah himself admitted that he has given wrong verdict against PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto but the PPP has never filed a case of judicial murder against him. He further said that he has no differences with deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and he will not become a hurdle in the career of anybody. "There are some constitutional obligations, which once settled, the pre-November 3 judiciary including Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would be restored", he added. Responding to a question he said the PPP being a major party has the right to nominate a President of its choice adding, however, that a decision to this effect would be made jointly by the coalition partners. He said the party would never abondan its friends whatsoever the circumstance would be. To another question, he said the next President himself would demand the removal of Clause 58(2)(B) from the Constitution. Responding yet to another question the PPP Co-Chairman said, that Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is fully empowered as far the governance is concerned adding however he has to follow the party line in policy matters. He said that PPP is pursing a policy of national consensus under a defined strategy and there is a national government in place representing all the democratic forces of the country. Zardari said the people of tribal areas, if financially empowered, would not play as tools in the hands of terrorists. "They are brave and hardworking people and if given the opportunities they can contribute in the nation-building activities befittingly", he added. Zardari said that in future the accountability would be made through the parliament and the Public Accounts Committee under the Chairmanship of Ch Nisar Ali Khan would be made a fully autonomous and powerful institution.
