LAKKI MARWAT - The residents of Lakki city and other adjoining areas faced hardships on Wednesday when they found the offices of tehsil municipal administration closed due to a complete strike by municipal workers union. After holding protest demonstrations against the posting of Asmatullah Khan Marwat as TMO Lakki, the workers union also went on strike and closed all the offices of civic body. The union also stopped service delivery to the citizens confronting them with problems of shortage of drinking water in the holy month of Ramazan. Strike by TMA workers has also turned the urban locality into a city of garbage heaps and filth depot. The sewerage lines and drains are filled with stagnant water and filth causing spreading stench but the workers are not bothering to clean them. Several residents said that they visited TMA offices on Wednesday to lodge complaints against scarcity of water and poor state of cleanliness but no one was there to listen to them. “The offices were locked and we were told that the employees were on strike”, they maintained. They said that inhabitants of Shaikhan locality also held a demonstration the other day to protest the shortage of water. The protesters, they said, got restored water supply to their locality by running the tube well of children park. An office bearer of municipal workers union said that the strike would continue until fulfillment of the sole demand of canceling the posting orders of TMO Asmatullah Khan Marwat. He said that TMO Asmatullah Khan’s move to get a stay order from a local court on local fund and financial matters of municipal body irked employees as it added to their problems and hampered the service delivery.  He told that provincial high ups concerned did not pay any heed to our demand leaving us with the only option to observe strike and paralyse the functions of civic body. He, however, said that water supply to the urban locality was restored keeping in view the problems of residents and sanctity of holy month. Meanwhile, All Employees Coordination Council held an emergency meeting with its president Saeed Akhtar in the chair to express solidarity with the protesting workers of tehsil municipal administration. AECC leaders asked the government to accept the demand of municipal workers otherwise the sphere of the strike would extended to other departments.
