ISLAMABAD - All Parties Hurriyat Conference Pakistan chapter on Saturday staged a protest demonstration in front of United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan offices in Islamabad to record their concern over the blatant human rights violations by New Delhi in Held Kashmir.
APHC local leaders also presented a memorandum addressed to UN Secretary General to draw his attention toward the rights abuses in Occupied Kashmir by the Indian forces as well as remind him about the non-implementation of the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir pledging the people of the valley to exercise their right of self-determination.
Led by APHC Pakistan chapter leaders Mir Tahir Masood, Syed Yousaf Nasim and others, the demonstrators chanted slogans against India to mark the Republic Day of India as black day and demanded freedom from Indian occupation.
The participants were also holding placards and banners carrying slogans against Indian repression and rights violations in Occupied Kashmir. Some of the placards and banners were inscribed with slogans, “We want freedom”, ‘International community to take notice of Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir,’ “UN should implement its resolutions on Kashmir.”
The demonstrators staged a token sit-in in front of the offices of UNMOGIP to record their protest against the Indian brutalities in Held Kashmir and what they termed the criminal silence of United Nations and international community over it.
APHC leaders in their brief address to demonstrators reiterated their demand of freedom and made it loud and clear that people of Kashmir would not accept anything less that their right to plebiscite. They said the freedom struggle which was going on for the past over half a century would continue and they would hand over the flag of the struggle to their future generations like it had been handed over to them by their predecessors.
They said Kashmiris all over the world were observing Indian Republic Day as black day and the way life came to a grinding halt in Occupied Kashmir was an ample proof that people of Occupied Kashmir did not want to stay part of India.
They said international community should take notice of the blatant human rights violations in the valley and force India to allow international observers and human rights activists access to the occupied areas so that they could see the real face of India which claims to be the world’s largest democracy.
They were also critical of the apathy on part of United Nations which had failed to implement its resolutions on Kashmir wherein it was pledged that the people of Kashmir through a plebiscite would decide about their fate and future.
After raising slogans and staging token sit-in for almost half an hour, the APHC leaders met with the officials of United Nations and handed them over the memorandum addressed to UN Secretary General reminding him of the UN commitment with the people of Kashmir through its resolutions promising them to decide about their fate and future. Later, the demonstrators left the place peacefully.
