Islamabad - Former Chairman Senate Muhammad Mian Soomro’s nephew, Barrister Fahad Malik was killed in an armed clash here at sector F-10/3 in the early hours of Monday, police said.
Besides his death, the clash resulted in injuries to another person as the two groups exchanged gunfire on an issue revolving around a girl.
The police said that Raja Arshad and Malik Tariq groups clashed, in which both the parties came upfront to fire at each other openly. The clash took the life of Fahad Malik, 35, and left one injured, when the other party opened fire at their vehicle at the service road. The injured has been identified as Tariq Malik who has been hospitalised for medical treatment. Fahad Malik is stated to be the son of Malik Sohrab (late), a well-to-do family settled in the capital.
According to the initial police investigation, the incident could have been averted if the police searched the vehicles of the accused. The sources in the police while quoting initial investigation said the accused in car bearing registration number PS-100 (white Corolla) fired at Prado black VY-1 and IDM-11 white and the occupants of both the cars sustained injuries. Fahad Malik succumbed to the injuries while Malik Tariq’s condition is out of danger. The accused fled away from the scene. The police sources said that the Safe City Project team has been asked to trace out the car. Reportedly, the accused reside in sector E-7 and the SHO Shalimar has been directed to cordon off the house # 114, street 10, E-7 and arrest the culprits.
The police sources said both the parties had a fight at Gloria Jeans in F-11 sector and the bone of contention was a girl. Both the parties were brought to the police station Shalimar where they reached a compromise and both the parties also signed an agreement in the presence of the police officials. But as the victim party was going home, the other side, Raja Arshad group opened fire upon the vehicles with automatic weapons. The police believed if their vehicles would have been checked and searched properly, weapons could have been recovered, this incident could have been averted.
According to the police sources, Fahad Malik was playing the role of a mediator. The sources in the police said that Raja Arshad group enjoys the patronage of an influential political family in the suburbs of the capital city.
The initial post mortem report suggested that Fahad was hit four times. The bullet hitting Fahad on his right cheek turned out to be fatal, sources in the hospital said. Post mortem report of the deceased said that the deceased received bullets in his head and waist while the bullet he received in his head proved to be lethal.
A three-member investigation team has also been constituted under the head of SDPO Ghulam Muhammad Baqir which also include newly-appointed SHO Fayyaz Ranjha. SHO Shalimar police station Zulfikar was suspended after the incident as he could not manage arrest of the culprits.
SSP Islamabad police immediately appointed Fayyaz Ranjha as the new head of the police station. Ex-chairman senate Muhammad Mian Soomro also visited the house of the deceased on Monday evening. The police have not registered the case against the accused till filing of this report as the victim’s family had submitted a written application to the police high-ups.
Meanwhile, Islamabad police arrested nine outlaws from various areas of the city and recovered stolen mobile phones, laptop, weapons and valuables from them, a police spokesman said. According to details, Margalla police arrested Talal and recovered 3 stolen laptops from him.
Ramana police arrested one Aqil and recovered three stolen mobile phones from him. Golra police arrested one Asad and recovered stolen property from him. Secretariat police arrested one Asad Mehmood and recovered one 30-bore pistol along with ammunition from him. Bhara Kahu police arrested one Sagheer and recovered one 12-bore gun from him while Khanna police arrested Firdous Khan and Kashif Yaseen and recovered two 30-bore pistols along with ammunition from their possession. Shahzad Town police arrested Khursheed Khan and Naimat Khan and recovered stolen property from him. Cases have been registered against these nabbed persons and further investigation is underway.
