LAHORE Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Punjab Zone Zafar Ahmad Qureshi constituted a fresh team of investigators to probe into the smuggling of 230 kg gold to various countries which was surfaced during investigations of the case registered in past wherein 28 kg gold was seized by former provincial head of FIA. He said smuggling of gold of worth billions of rupees to other countries with the connivance of ASF, Customs and PIA officials deputed at International Airports of the country was shattering the foundations of our economy. He was talking to reporters after addressing a Press conference at his office on Wednesday. "I will also summon the officers of Customs who are involved in the said smuggling and allegedly real brother of a collector customs is also involved in the smuggling", he added. The director was of the view that majority of the people making hue and cry over street crimes do not know that real loss caused to national exchequer was due to white collar crimes in the country. He said former management seized 28 kg gold which was being smuggled but due to malafied intention of the investigation officers of FIA relief was given to the accused and no further recovery or disclosure was made due to unknown reasons. He ruled out the impression that Ayaz Niazi was being tortured and said he was being interrogated under law and no third degree method was being applied during investigations. Qureshi said twelve accused of NICL had been arrested and mind boggling disclosures were expected during investigation of Ayaz Niazi. Earlier, he said Press conference was only convened to launch an awareness campaign against white collar crimes including cheating public at large through human smuggling, parallel banking lucrative cell phone messages. He was of the view that FIA had busted two gangs of human smugglers involved in human trafficking.
