Some of the major duties of the police as enumerated in the Police Act of 1861 were fairly straightforward and crystal clear. These were such as obey and execute all orders and warrants lawfully issued by any competent authority and collect and communicate intelligence affecting the public peace. The Police Order, 2002 is far more detailed and in the interest of National Security, yet still it has failed to bring the desired change. It is imperative that the police are highly trained and the civil society also needs to cooperate fully with the Police so that a peaceful society can prevail. ALI HAMDANI, December 15.
