LAHORE - Pakistan junior tennis player Samir Iftikhar clinched the Punjab Open Tennis singles title here at Bagh-e-Jinnah courts on Wednesday. Samir outplayed aged former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. A jam-packed crowd including Pakistan tennis ace Aisamul Haq witnessed an exciting mens singles final of the championship. Samir broke Rashid Malik in the third and fifth game with display of power tennis to win the set. Rashid came back strongly and broke Samir in the second game to lead 3-0. Samir bounced back to broke his opponent in the seventh game to lead 4-3. Samir displayed some good passing shot and sizzling serves to take 5-4 lead finally win the set and the match. Sara Mehboob won a three-setter marathon match against Saba Aziz 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 to win the ladies title. Aisamul Haq was guest of honour who gave away the prizes to the winners. Addressing the gathering, Aisam said that he was proud that his cousins Samir Iftikhar, Ushna Sohail and Faizan Khurram who were making good progress in tennis.
