Our Staff Reporter MULTAN - In order enhance capabilities for coping with any emergency situation, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) held a full-scale airport emergency exercise Air Contingency 2011 here at Multan International Airport on Thursday. Besides CAA, the personnel of airport security force, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, PIA, PSO, Civil Defence, Fire Service City, Rescue 1122, Edhi, doctors and paramedics participated in the drill. The fire-fighters exhibited their skill to extinguish fire while the medics held exercise for shifting injured to hospitals by army helicopters. The motive behind holding this exercise is to assess the performance of concerned departments at the airports. It enables them to control emergencies in shortest possible time and scale down the disaster, said CAA authorities. Transporters shut roads for traffic: The transporters, wagon drivers and conductors staged a demonstration against suspension of CNG supply and forcible examination of gas cylinders here at Vehari Chowk on Thursday. The wagon owners parked hundreds of vehicles on road and blocked the entire Chowk from all sides. Resultantly, a worst traffic jam took place at the spot as the people coming to Multan and exiting the town got stuck. Witnesses said that the traffic jam persisted for at least two hours. The protesters shouted slogans against the government, burnt tyres and placed them on the road. Talking to the journalists, they said that the transport industry was already faced with very critical situation because of loadshedding of CNG while forced examination of gas cylinders further destroyed the business. They demanded the government to ensure gas supply to the CNG stations and stop checking to gas cylinder otherwise they would continue their protest.
