KHYBER AGENCY - The repatriation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Bara could be started from December 25 or in first week of January, 2015, Assistant Political Agent (APA) Bara Khyber Agency Nasir Khan said.

Addressing the annual general body meeting of the Tribal Union of Journalists (TUJ) Khyber Agency unit in Peshawar, Nasir Khan said that the area of Shalobar tribe of Bara had been cleared of militants and the residents would be sent back in the first phase. He further informed that efforts are continued for the safe return of Bara IDPs at the end of this year or in January 2015. “Those who want to go back to their hometown will be facilitated and all convenience will be provided to them upon their return,” APA claimed. He said after the Khyber 1 military operation, peace has been restored in Bara tehsil and an era of prosperity and development would be initiated. On their repatriation, he said the tribesmen of Bara will find favourable environment to resume their economical, educational, social and other activities.

MNA, Bara Nasir Khan Afridi, TUJ, President Mehboob Shah Afridi and others also delivered speeches on the occasion. Nasir Khan Afridi in his address said that the Bara bazaar would be opened soon after the arrival of displaced persons so that tribesmen could revive their businesses. He also said that all educational and health institutions would be opened and reconstructed once the peace restored and repatriation started. “We will leave no stone unturned for the welfare and benefits of IDPs and all the tribesmen of Khyber Agency,” he claimed.

After the military action in Khyber Agency launched in 2009, more than 80,000 families have displaced from various parts of Bara and have been residing in Peshawar, IDPs camps and other districts of KP.
