KARACHI  - Stakeholders of the city including business community and political parties have shown annoyance over the discriminate behavior of K-Electric with the citizens of the metropolis.

They demanded the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take action against the private power company for the decrease in power tariff.

According to the details, major political party of the City Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Husaain had demand that the K-Electric should stop the means of earning by dirty tactics. He said that the Prime Minister announced a substantial decrease in the power tariff to give relief to the people but K-Electric denied reducing power tariff and refusing to transform it to the masses.

Hussain demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif to take action against K-Electric and compel it to follow the Prime Minister’s proposal of decrease in power tariff.

He said that the federal government and Authority should sternly ask the K-electric for its denial to reduce power tariff.

On the other side, Jamat-e-Islami Karachi Chapter chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman had also demanded the government and National Electric Power and Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to restrict K-Electric in order to reduce its electricity tariff after the Prime Minister’s announcement to cut in electricity tariff by Rs2.32.

Expressing his deep concern over the non-implementation of reduced electricity tariff by K-Electric, Hafiz Naeem termed it an “unjustified act” by the authorities concerned of K-Electric.

Hafiz Naeem said that the Karachiites are deprived of the relief which is due after the reduction in POL and electricity prices, adding that the common men should get the relief in terms of reduced electricity tariff.

“On one hand, the K-Electric is fleecing the consumers by sending heavy amount of electricity bills through over-billing while, on the other hand routine load-shedding in winter season is also being conducted by K-Electric”, he added.

Hafiz Naeem further demanded of the federal government to take notice of the unjustified act of K-Electric, so that the Karachiites could get the sigh of relief.

All Karachi Tajir Ittehad (AKTI) Chairman Atiq Mir told The Nation that Karachiites have not yet availed any relief after PM announcement to decrease power tariff. It is responsibility of Federal Government to take measure for the implementation, he added. Mir pointed out that the private power company has always followed the fuel adjustment policy for the increase and decrease in its tariff.

He further added that traders will provide relief to the masses if the government bound K-Electric on decreases its tariff.

Meanwhile, K-Electric spokesman expressing unhappiness over statements of political parties, said that NEPRA is an authority to decide the tariff of K-Electric. He said that KE already decrease Rs0.74 per unit in its tariff due to reduction in furnace oil prices on December, 11. He said that KE didn’t receive any notification by NEPRA to reduce its tariff after the announcement by Prime Minister.

Criticising the political parties statements, he asked that political leaders to avoid any baseless statements against the company and support the company official to eliminate power thief culture from their respective areas. Talking about the performance of KE he was of the view that about 60 percent area of the metropolis had exempted from loadshedding while 40 percent areas facing only 6 hours power suspension due to the reported electricity theft.
