islamabad (PR) - The two-day international conference on “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Strategic Impact on Regional Development” organised by National University of Modern Languages (NUML) started here at the university yesterday.

Chairman Parliamentary Committee on CPEC Mushahid Hussain Sayed was the chief guest of the inaugural session, while host of the ceremony Rector NUML Major General (Retd) Ziaud Din Najam and Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr Mukhtar Ahmed participated as keynote speakers in the inaugural session, says a press release issued here.

President Xinjiang Normal University (XJNU) Urmoqui, Weili Balati, Rector NUST Engineer Muhammad Asghar, Vice Chancellor Quaid-i-Azam University Dr Javed Ashraf, Director General NUML Brig Riaz Ahmed Gondal, DG Institute of Strategic Studies Masood Khan, Associate Professor XJNU Chen Jun, Assistant Professor NUML Sarwat Rauf, Engr Muhammad Akram Sheikh, AbdulaitiYiming, Salman Shah and others also attended the conference.

Speaking on the occasion Mushahid Hussain Sayed said that Pakistan has become a centre of gravity for the world. He said shift of power can be seen from west to east and Pakistan due to its geographical and geopolitical location will be a key player in the future of world politics and world economy. He said that CPEC is not just a route but a concept and it must be taken in a broader sense.

“The CPEC would become a symbol of unity among the people of Pakistan,” Mushahid said. He said that it is a matter of proud for NUML that it is part of 51 MoUs signed during Chinese President’s visit to Pakistan in April last.

Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed said that CPEC will change the fate of Pakistan and HEC is planning to establish an excellence centre of Central Asian Universities to share knowledge and initiate collective projects to make the region a land of opportunities. He said that CPEC project will cover all the aspects like food security, economic growth, climate change and energy etc. He was of the view that this is the time to make and establish cluster of educational institutes across the globe to make our motherland and the region more peaceful and prosper.

Earlier, Rector NUML Major General (Retd) Ziaud Din Najam in his welcome address said that language is the only way to promote mutual interest and endorse friendship at maximum level. He said that NUML has started Chinese language as an optional subject for different faculties keeping in view the future demand and make our student more proactive towards CPEC project.

He said that NUML is the first university to signed MoU with Xinjiang Normal University China to open “NUML International Centre of Education (NICE)” in China to teach Chinese foreign languages of the world. He said that NUML has the honour that NICE project was included in 51 MoUs which were signed under CPEC project. He hoped that this international conference will serve the purpose of both countries and bring more clarity for Pakistani students who are the future of Pakistan.

Former Ambassador and Director General Institute of Strategic Studies Masood Khan said that CPEC refers to peace, harmony and development. He said that it does not come into reality in a year but it was a continuous thought of both states.

Associate Professor XJNU Chen Jun elaborated the complete details of the rail and road route of CPEC project and informed the participants how both the countries will get benefit from the project.
