rawalpindi - The Lahore High Court (LHC), Rawalpindi bench, yesterday ordered police not to harass family members and supporters of ex-law minister Punjab Muhammad Basharat Raja residing in Dhamial and its surrounding areas.

The court issued the directions after taking up the petition filed by Muhammad Basharat Raja through Advocate Sardar Abdul Razik. Raja challenged the arrests of residents of Dhamial village in case of ransacking the election office and burning a vehicle of a PML-N local leader and his cousin respectively as a protest against a murder. As many as 10 people have been arrested by police in the case so far.

Sardar Abdul Razik Advocate while talking to media persons said that LHC had directed the police not to arrest the supporters and family members of Muhammad Basharat Raja, whose nephew was allegedly killed by brother of Asad Mehmood on December 5 outside a polling station.

He said the court had also issued notices to City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi and the Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Saddar Bairooni Malik Yar asking them to file detailed response by December 23.
