Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor new ISPR DG

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Army on Thursday saw another major administrative reshuffle in less than a week’s time since appointment of General Qamar Javed Bajwa as the new chief of army staff last month.

As many as seven major generals have been posted on new positions, while two major generals including Major Gen Saeed and Maj Gen Nadeem Anjum were posted on Thursday as DG Rangers Sindh and IG FC Balochistan respectively.

According to the ISPR, Major General Asif Ghafoor has been posted as Director-General Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR).

He is presently commanding a division in Swat.  The new DG ISPR carries a vast experience of operations to his credit and had commanded unit in operation named Almizan. He has served in Military Operations Directorate and remained involved in finalisation of the National Action Plan (NAP).

His predecessor Lt-General Asim Bajwa was appointed as the DG ISPR when he was serving as major general but he was later promoted to the rank of lt-general.

Similarly, Major General Abdullah Dogar has been posted as commandant PMA, while Major General Syed Adnan has been posted as general officer commanding (GOC) Lahore.

Major General Fida Malik has been posted director general (logistics) at the General Headquarters and Major General Zafarullah Khan has been posted as GOC Panu Aqil.

Similarly, Major-General Nadir Khan has been posted director-general (personnel services) and Provost Marshal (PS&PM) at the GHQ, while Major General Zafar Iqbal has been posted as GOC armoured division Gujranwala.

COAS General Bajwa who assumed charge on November 29 at an impressive change of command ceremony drew his new team of senior officers, who have ample counterterrorism experience.

Earlier on December 11, he picked senior commanders who had similar experience and promoted them to the rank of Lt Generals and posted them on important positions.

Meanwhile, the US ambassador to Pakistan David Hale visited the GHQ and called on the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

According to the ISPR, bilateral and regional security issues were discussed during the meeting.
