ISLAMABAD: A truck stroked Pakistan Express at an unmanned level at crossing no 23 between Shorkot and Chutiana today.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Railways, no causality was reported. Though the line was cleared later but it resulted in detention of Pakistan Express at Shorkot for 2 hours and 35 minutes and detention of Karakoram Express for 20 minutes.

This accident happened due to negligence of truck driver, the statement said.

It is important to mention that unmanned level crossings are not responsibility of Railway Authorities. In order to ensure the safety of trains operations, Pakistan Railways in 2013, had conducted a joint venture survey for the up-gradations of existing unmanned level crossing in collaboration with Provincial and Local District Governments.

As a result vulnerable unmanned level crossings were identified in all provinces. In Punjab about 75 unmanned level crossings have been upgraded to manned by Railway Authorities now.
