LAHORE - Three members of a family were burnt alive and two others sustained serious burns in Nishat Colony on Friday, rescue workers said.

It was unclear yet what caused the fire.

However, initial investigation suggested the blaze broke out because of short-circuit. Three persons dies as rescuers reached the site.

A 50-year-old woman and her two sons were among the dead. Two injured boys were shifted to hospital. The father of boys survived luckily.  The deceased were identified by police as Shakeela Bibi, and her sons including 22-year-old Sajjad and 16-year-old.

The condition of the injured, Waleed and Naveed, was said to be serious till late Friday night.  All the family members were sleeping when the incident took place.  Neighbours said rescue operation could not be launched because of narrow streets in the densely populated locality. The blaze broke out on the ground floor of the house and spread to the upper portion within no time. 

The experts from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency also visited the house to collect evidence. Further investigation was underway.

Robbers on raids

Dacoits on Friday looted two motorcyclists at gunpoint in different parts of the metropolis and escaped after collecting cash and valuables.

Police sources said that two gunmen held up Shabbir at gunpoint in the Kahna police precincts. The man was deprived of Rs 30,000 and a mobile phone at gunpoint. In another incident, two gunmen snatched away Rs 20,000 and two mobile phones from a citizen in the Ghaziabad police area. The police were investigating the robberies with no arrest made yet.
