ISLAMABAD - There is not a single educational psychologist in the curriculum wing of the education department, while India is competing with international standards of education. Rayed Afzal, Managing Director of Educational Assessment System and Training (EAST), a body working for the uplift of primary education in the country, revealed this in a teachers training workshop organised by EAST Pakistan. Addressing the principals and teachers of different schools of the twin cities, MD EAST Rayed Afzal said that there was no mechanism for books preparation and designing as per international standards. He said that the dream of development could not be achieved without devising a comprehensive strategy for the uplift of education sector. He said that media could play decisive role in this regard, as children are much influenced by music rhyme, story and visual. He argued that it was the best way to teach the children while using the modern ways of teaching, adding that 2/3 Quraan consisted of tales and stories. Rayed said that there were flaws in the system even after matriculation a student could not speak English language properly. He was of the view prevailing confusion in this regard could be removed by adopting modern means of education and teaching. He advised the teachers to teach their students while adopting aforementioned modern tools of teachings. He claimed that EAST was working to bring innovation in teaching methods according to the aptitude of the children and in accordance to the revised international standards. He introduced EAST books especially prepared for primary school children to the participants of the workshop. EAST books aim to provide children with opportunities to develop their skills with the help of activities, interesting reading materials and attractive illustrations, he held. Our books are supported by teachers guides, video training, teaching learning aids and parents orientation, he added. These support materials and services ensure complete and effective implementation of our books, he said adding, we are organising an introductory programme about our latest research in the filed of pre primary (Montessori) education.
