Khadeja stuns Arif in Challenge Cup


ISLAMABAD - Khadeja Laghari, the ladies champion of Islamabad Tennis Club, outclass Journalist Tennis Champion Arif Mehmood in straight sets in the Challenge Cup Tennis match played here at Islamabad Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
The challenge match was organised by the ITC management to celebrate 10 years of establishing the complex.  Arif broke the first serve of Khadeja and then hold on to his serve to take a comfortable 2-0 lead. Khadeja fought back to retain her serve in the third game, when she was down 0-40, but to her credit she not only save three game points, but also bounced back to win the third game to close the gap to 2-1.
Arif won the fourth game on his serve to take a 3-1 lead. Khadeja once gain retained her serve and levelled the match at 3-3, from there on it was a one way traffic as Khadeja got rhythm and completely took control of the match and went on to win next three games in a row, thus winning the challenge match in the process.
Khadeja despite playing against a male player, never lost her composure and played a superb game, using her powerful serves and back hand shots, which Arif failed to response.
Fazle Subhanthe MD of Islamabad Tennis Complex was the chief guest and later he gave away the Challenge Cup shield to Khadeja Laghari.
Speaking on the occasion Subhan said: “The main objective of setting up of this complex was to find and groom and polish the youngsters at grass-root level to nourish them in to future stars, which can bring laurels for the country at international level.”
