KARACHI- A groom was killed while four others injured in a firing incident on a vehicle. Some unidentified armed men resorted to indiscriminate firing at the wedding car in Pak Colony area on Friday evening.

The victim was identified as Abdul Majid and injured as Feroz, Hassan, Moiz and Obair. The body and the injured were taken to Civil Hospital.

Police officials said that about one dozen suspects on a Shahzor truck and motorcycles resorted to indiscriminate fire at the groom’s car. He died shortly after the incident while at least four others of the wedding ceremony’s participants were wounded. He said that the victim was the resident of Garden area who was a suspected member of the Lyari gangster Arshad Pappu. His brother was also killed in a target killing incident about one year ago. The officer said that the victims’ families claimed that the rival gangster group was behind the incident while further investigation was underway. No case has been registered.

Separately, a police constable was killed and another was wounded in a firing incident in Korangi area. Deceased was identified as Bashir Ahmed, 50, and injured as Farasat. Police officials said that the incident took place when the deceased and injured policemen, during routine patrolling, tried to intercept three suspects riding a motorcycle. The suspects opened fire at the policemen, resultantly, one lost his life and another got wounded. SHO Hatim Marwat said that the culprits, however, managed to escape under the cover of firing. Further investigation was underway. Moreover, two political workers among 11 people were gunned down in separate incidents of target killings here on Friday.  Two young men affiliated with Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) were found dead.

Police said that the victims were on the way to home from Sea View when some gunmen intercepted their car and tried to abduct them near Murtaza Chowrangi, Landhi. Assailants managed to take away two of them while their other accomplice managed to escape. The bodies of the abducted victims were found from Murtaza Chowrangi area of Awami Colony police station and Sharafi Goth police station.

Police said that 29-year-old Nadeem started running when kidnappers intercepted the car while culprits resorted to firing and shot him four times and took away rest of the two Haqqiqi workers including Junaid Sultan, 27, and Asghar Khan to an unknown location where gunmen killed and threw their bodies.

The bodies and the injured were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and medical treatment. MQM-H claimed the affiliation of the victims with the party.  The party’s spokesperson blamed the rival political party behind the incident. He demanded the government and law enforcers to arrest the culprits.

Police officials said that Asghar was the resident of Sherpao Colony, Landhi and was shot twice in his abdomen and face, adding that he used to work in a textile mill in Landhi area. Police officials said that Junaid was a resident of Shah Faisal Colony area and associated with the MQM-H unit-108 and presently living in hiding. Police officials said that the injured Nadeem was shot at least four times and he was not in a position to record his statement. No case has been registered till the filing of this report.

A man was gunned down and Nine-year-old boy Zaman was also injured in Baloch Mohallah within the remits of Orangi Town police station.

Police said that the victim was identified as Ansar Hussian, 50. He was working at a private factory located in Orangi Town and was on his way to workplace when two armed men shot him dead. Police suspected that the incident took place on sectarian grounds.
