QUETTA - The Balochistan Assembly members have said that agreements on Reko Diq and Gwadar Port should be made in the interests of Balochistan.
Baloch MPAs said the governor has no authority to make agreement with a foreign country and only elected representatives of the province can make such agreements.
During a BA session on Friday, the lawmakers unanimously adopted a resolution against deteriorated law and order situation in the province, saying that no improvement had occurred since the imposition of governor’s rule .
JUI-F member Maulana Abdul Wasay said that US government was opposing the handing of Gwadar Port to China. “We would support to give control of the port to China, if the agreement is made with elected provincial government.” Wasay said they would not accept decisions being taken in meetings on Reko Diq. “We will strongly oppose any agreement on Reko Diq project that is made by the non-elected people,” he added.
Criticising governor’s rule , he said Nawab Aslam Raisani’s elected government was sacked under the pretext of law and order but 125 people had been killed, 75 injured, while 35 cases of kidnapping and 15 bomb blasts had occurred since the imposition of governor’s rule .
JUI-F MPA Aainullah Shams said that foreign companies were interested in Reko Diq and other projects but it should be cleared that only elected government could sign any such agreement. “Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi cannot make any agreement on Reko Diq.”
MPA Mir Shahnawaz Marri said that agreement on Reko Diq should be made in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Balochistan. The interests of people should be given preference, he asserted.
Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A) MPA Mir Asad Baloch said that Nawab Aslam Raisani-led provincial government was sacked due to some issues related to Reko Diq project. Raisani had taken a bold stand on Reko Diq, he added.
Baloch said that in the guise of governor’s rule , a way for military operation in Balochistan was paved and operations in Mastung and Mangochar reflected this. Recovery of decomposed dead bodies of Baloch youth has not stopped, he added.
PML-Q MPA Mir Asim Kurd said that the country was going through a critical phase and facing the scourge of terrorism.
He said that the federal government should restore the elected government in the province. We ready for audit of the development projects, he added.
The session was adjourned until February 20.
