PESHAWAR - Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Friday asked the govt to ensure a conducive environment for holding the upcoming general elections.
Addressing a mammoth public gathering held in connection with the 38th death anniversary of Shaheed Hayat Mohammad Khan Sherpao here, he said the government was responsible for taking steps so that the next polls could be held in a free, fair and transparent manner. QWP Provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, Malik Nadeem, Saleem Chamkani and others spoke on the occasion.
He said the government had failed to bring peace to the country over the last five years. “What have the rulers done for the restoration of peace,” he asked. He criticised the government for its flawed economic policies and said the government was borrowing heavy loans from commercial banks and printing huge number of currency notes that had raised inflation in the country. “The government should have adopted austerity measures for minimising the non-developmental expenses in order to revive the economy,” he maintained. About the recently convened APC, Sherpao said those claiming to have given identity to the Pakhtuns were now trying to deceive them again and the moot was held with the view to give the impression that they were making efforts for bringing peace.
Aftab Sherpao said the provincial government had claimed that it had resolved the net hydel profit issue, but it had failed to do so. “The provincial government should now accept its failure that it hasn’t now been able to receive the net hydel profit arrears despite that fact it is in power both at the provincial and federal level,” he argued.
