LAHORE - The government of Punjab has announced to observe women development week from first to 8th of March in connection with World Women Day.

On the first day of the week, seminars will be held in over 256 public and 35 public and private sector universities on the subject of improving social status of women and giving them more effective role in decision making.

While announcing the said decision on Saturday cabinet committee also reviewed the arrangements regarding functions in connection with World Women Day.

Various ceremonies will be held in connection with public awareness campaign of women rights at district and divisional levels on 5th, 6th and 7th March in which elected public representatives of concerned districts, welfare organisations and office bearers of concerned government departments and prominent women will participate.

Headed by Minister for Education Rana Mashood Ahamd Khan the meeting also decided to draft amendment in protection of women rights law on 8th March after which a function will be held in honour of women who rendered valuable services in their respective department which will be presided over by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. 

Women excellence award ceremony will be held on March 09 at Governor’s House Lahore. Rana Mashhood said that Punjab government had introduced women package in 2012 which include various amendments for the protection of women rights. The government has vowed to enusre women’s protection.
