Rawalpindi - A 30-year-old man, who was shot and injured by land mafia here at Peoples Colony, died at Holy Family Hospital on Sunday morning.

By placing the dead body at GPO Chowk and blocking Mall Road for traffic, the heirs and relatives of the deceased staged a protest demonstration against police over failure to arrest the murder accused.

According to details, Zohaib, who was taken to District Headquarters Hospital on February 10 with four bullet wounds due to firing by a group of land mafia in Peoples Colony, succumbed to his injuries at the Holy Family Hospital.

Later, blocking road for all kinds of vehicular movement the charged protesters chanted slogans against police high-ups of Potohar division and SHO PS Race Course.

A relative of the deceased told media persons that police were not apprehending the killers despite registering a murder case.  However, Malik Yusaf, station house officer of police station Race Course, when contacted by this scribe said the family of the deceased itself gave a safe passage to the killers by making delay in naming them in the FIR. He said that the victim family was protesting against him without any valid reason. “I am raiding at all possible dens of the land grabbers, against whom 15 cases were registered in different police stations, to arrest them but they are still at large,” he said. He was of view that Masood Niazi and his son, both accused, are land grabbers.

He said that Masood had already murdered his sister-in-law when she demanded her house built by her husband (late). He informed that he summoned Masood and Ashraf for investigation in a murder case but they started firing outside the police station. Police would soon arrest the land grabbers, he claimed.
