EDO Agriculture Mohammad Akram Pasha has emphasised that every citizen should actively take part in tree plantation campaign and play their due role to tackle growing environmental issues.

He stressed that more and trees could help control pollution and therefore all and sundry should come forward to make the plantation drive a success.

The EDO was addressing the inauguration of spring tree plantation campaign. Divisional Forest Officer Multan Liaquat Gulzar Sheikh, District Forest Officer Mohammad Afzal, officials of different departments and a large number of students attended the ceremony.

The EDO Agriculture said that the department had made effective arrangements for the drive and expressed his confidence that the target of sapling plantation would be achieved. Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Forest Officer Multan Sheikh Liaquat said that a single sapling planted by a citizen would make a difference and would help increase forest in the country. He urged the students to plant more and more saplings as it was a national duty.

Earlier, the EDO Agriculture and Divisional Forest Officer plant saplings to kick off spring plantation 2015.

Two notorious bandits shot dead in shootout

Two notorious robbers were killed and an SHO sustained gunshot wounds in a shootout here on Sunday. The police also recovered arms and snatched motorcycles from their possession.

According to Okara DPO Capt (r) Muhammad Faisal Rana, the police had taken two under custody accused to point out hideouts of their accomplices in Makki-Maddni Town, In the meanwhile, their accomplices attacked the police party and a shootout erupted between the police and the criminals.

In crossfire, two notorious outlaws identified as Asif alias Sunny and Sajid alias Sajju wanted by police in various cases of murder, robbery and others crimes were killed.

The DPO said that the police also recovered arms including Kalashnikovs, pistols, bullets and three snatched motorcycles from the scene. SHO Inspector Tahir Waheed also sustained bullet injuries during the cross-fire with the dacoits and was admitted to DHQ Hospital Okara.
