The chain of decisions by the judiciary which started in 2017 continue to haunt thecorrupt mafia in 2018, as well. With the disqualification of a sitting Prime Minister on the basis that he is not Sadiq and Ameen on Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, a lot of stakeholders were now alert. Based on the following cases: Panama Papers; Benazir Bhutto’s Murder Case; Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen’s disqualification; the Pakistani people, media and politicians in particular were on their toes. Pakistan’s judiciary remained quite active throughout. Latest one to bite the dust is PML-N Senator Nehal Hashmi’s issue. His controversial speech had landed him in trouble. Hashmi had warned those conducting the investigation will be “taken to task” for exposing the first family. The leaked video of Hashmi’s remarks had gone viral on social media and later on played by every media channel. The Supreme Court sentenced Senator Nehal Hashmi to one month imprisonment and barred him from holding public office for the next five years with a fine of Rs 50,000. This scenario raises a question in mind of every Pakistani, when will our politicians start following the law and constitution and not blame judiciary and other institutions for doing what they are supposed to do? We as a nation need to step up and let our politicians know that they are in power to work for the betterment of country.
