LAHORE - The PML-N leadership has decided to mobilise the masses at every level involving leadership from top to the bottom.

Sources in the party say that PML-N has decided to widen the scope of mass-contact campaign by holding separate public meetings of PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, his younger brother and Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, ministers and the party legislators at their own level.

Sources say Nawaz Sharif is going to address a public meeting at Sheikhpura on February 18 following which he will go to Lodhran to thank the party voters who earned the PML-N a prize victory against the PTI at this crunch time when the party needs to bolster its position in the wake of general elections a few months away. Sources say Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer disease in London and if need arises Nawaz Sharif may proceed abroad for a short time following which he will resume his public interaction.

They further say that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif who has been named as party’s candidate for prime ministership after the PML-N victory in the coming general elections, has also addressed the public meetings. Shehbaz addressed a huge public gathering at Burewala on Thursday and in next leg, he is moving to Gujranwala which will be followed by other public meetings the schedule of which is under preparation, they added. The party ministers and the legislators have been directed to remain in close contact with the masses to mobilise their opinion in favour of the party by addressing their problems as part of the election preparations. The party wings and organisations have also been asked to become active in their respective areas as a part of preparation for the coming polls.

Sources say that the mass-contact campaign will yield dividends for the party other than the election preparations in view of the decisions in the NAB cases against Nawaz Sharif and those before Supreme Court which hold bearing with party’s presidential office of the former prime minister. It is being widely believed in the party that in case Nawaz could not continue as party president due to court verdict, Shehbaz would be the only choice to replace him in the top position in the PML-N, they add.
