LAHORE (APP) - President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday afternoon visited the mausoleum of national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, where he laid floral wreath and offered fateha. Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar said President Zardari in his remarks described Allama Iqbal as a great visionary and said this vision was the driving force behind the movement for freedom and independence. The best way to pay tributes to Iqbal was to understand his message and imbibe his teachings, he said. The President said it was unfortunate that in the country envisioned by Iqbal, Islam has been ruthlessly exploited by extremists and militants to foist their narrow agendas on the people in the name of religion. The extremists and militants have rejected the Constitution, the Federation and institutions of democracy only to capture power in the name of religion, the President remarked. This cannot be allowed; it will not be, the President said. He stressed the need for understanding Iqbals concept of the message of Islam and urged the nation to rebuild Pakistan by drawing inspiration from Allama Iqbals vision.
