LAHORE The police investigators probing into the gruesome killing of the parents of Supreme Court Judge, Justice Javed Iqbal, are still clueless as all the four suspects earlier taken into custody have been released, police sources disclosed to this reporter here on Saturday. We have not arrested any suspect in this regard. No one is in our custody. We are still clueless and we are investigating, Crimes Investigations Agency (CIA) police chief Omar Virk said when contacted. When asked about the four street guards and house servants taken into custody in connection with the killings, he said, We have not arrested anybody. We are investigating the case. However, police sources claimed that the street guards and house servants have been released after initial cross-questioning as the investigators failed to establish their link with the high-profile double murder. They (suspects) had nothing to do with the incident. They were innocent and have been released, a police source said confidently, adding that the police had no solid clue to trace the killers. They (investigators) are still in a fix and the mystery is too complicated to be resolved. They (police) are waiting for a miracle to happen, he said, requesting his identity not be revealed. Sources in the City police said that the police investigators are applying typical methods to get any breakthrough in the blind double murder case. Even, the police are still unable to establish whether it was house robbery-cum-killings incident or it was purely the double murder case. Sources close to the investigators said that the police picked up over a dozen suspects in connection with the killings since the incident took place in the highly-guarded posh locality of Cantonment. But most of the suspects were released later as the police kept them in illegal custody for a couple of days. CCPO Muhammad Aslam Tareen is himself head of the investigation team while SP Cantonment and SP Investigations are the members. A day after the killings, the CCPO had told reporters that the servants have been taken into custody for investigation. When contacted repeatedly, the CCPO was not available for his comments. According to SP (Investigations) Cantonment Ameen Bokhari, two housemaids and as many street guards were taken into custody and interrogated in this regard. Former DIG police Malik Abdul Hameed and his second wife Zarina Bibi were found murdered at their Cavalry Ground residence late on Tuesday night. The elderly couple was murdered in cold blood and apparently it seemed that the killings were pre-planned. The police registered a dacoity-cum-murder case against unidentified killers under section 302 and 392 of the PPC on the complaint of Saeed Ahmed, retired army officer and brother of Justice Javed Iqbal. The autopsy report of the deceased suggested that the killers tortured the elderly couple and later suffocated them to death as there were visible torture marks on their body parts. Newly-appointed IG Javed Iqbal after visiting the crime scene told reporters that the incident appeared to be a dacoity-cum-double-murder. However, the police investigators were yet to establish the motives behind the gruesome killings till filing of this report. Earlier the police investigators found gold ornaments worth Rs 300,000 missing from the crime scene.
