KARACHI (APP) - The government is in a state of fiscal emergency which could only be overcome with the 'working partnership' of business community, said Chairman, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Salman Siddique. Addressing the members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Saturday, he said that the FBR would extend its maximum cooperation to the business community of Karachi to resolve their pending disputes regarding tax payment and collection. Referring to various complaints on export refund claims, he said that a committee of KCCI should be formed by the Chamber office bearers who could help the Board in resolving the claims of the exporters. "I assure you that all the refund claims will be made expeditiously as compared to the past and non official malpractices will be tolerated," he added. The FBR chief said that the Board's Revenue Advisory Council will be asked to have working relationship with the KCCI and further gave an assurance to the business community members that functions of FBR will be restructured in due consultation with the members of the Chamber. The FBR chief also hinted at formation of a mechanism terming it alternate dispute resolution methods to improve the relations with the tax payers. Earlier, the KCCI President Saeed Shafique dwelt at length over the problems of the business community pertaining taxation.
