KARACHI - Kamran Hussain took two wickets in two balls at almost the fag end of third days play to bring Habib Bank into a winning position against PIA in the five-day final of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Cricket Championship here on Saturday at the National Stadium. Kamran finished with three for 35. PIA second innings which was inching towards safety slumped suddenly after this collapse. Trailing by 85 runs on the first innings, PIA were in dire trouble at the end of the day's play at 232 for eight. They have gained an overall lead of 147 runs. Fahd Iqbal with fighting 46 and Najaf Shah not out two were at the crease. PIA sent into bat had scored 228 and HBL aided by 109 from Imran Farhat had replied with 313. Only some inspired bowling from Aizaz Cheema may deny what HBL deserve victory. Earlier in the day when HBL resumed its first innings at 288 for eight ,center of attraction was how many more runs the bankers could add to their total to make the lead meaningful. Much depended on all rounder Fahad Masood who had thwarted the airlines pace and spin attack on Friday night to terminate HBL innings. He and Muhammad Aslam had already put on good number of runs. They were expected to extend their partnership further but it did not happen and as was expected Muhammad Aslam was first to leave that broke up 9th wicket partnership. Aslam was caught by Anop Santosh off Shoaib Malik for 18. His partnership with Fahad Masood added valuable 62 runs. But before the partnership ended Fahad Masood had reached a deserving half century. In effort to save last man Sarmad Anwar from PIA bowlers, Fahad Masood tried to face the bowlers as much as possible. He was last to get out after making 66 in a 113 balls innings that contained seven fours. HBL innings ended at 313 taking good 85 runs lead could prove decisive in the final count.
