ISLAMABAD - Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood on Saturday said that noise pollution was injurious to human health and Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) was striving hard to make the capital noise-free. He was addressing a gathering on the occasion where more than 4,000 pressure horns were bulldozed. The ITP has constituted a special squad to check the noise pollution, which takes action against installation of pressure horns, extra seats and curtains in the public service vehicles (PSVs). During last six months, 4,000 pressure horns were removed from various vehicles by the police team and squads headed by SP Farhat Abbas Kazmi, which were bulldozed in ITP HQ. On the occasion, SSP Traffic said that to make the capital noise free city, the ITP started a campaign as the noise pollution was affecting the nerves and injurious to human health, therefore, strict action would be taken against pressure horns users. He said that a special squad including the officials from Islamabad Traffic Police and Ministry of Environment conducted regular checking and fined vehicles involved in creating noise pollution or other environmental pollution in the city. The purpose of this whole practice was to provide better transportation facilities to the citizens and end noise pollution in the city. The SSP said that noise pollution was equally dangerous for nerves and heart system of human beings. He said noise pollution might cause annoyance, aggression, hypertension, high-stress levels, hearing loss, sleep disturbances and other harmful effects, adding that Islamabad would be made noise free city to save citizens from any kind of ailment. SSP Dr Moeen Masood also directed the police personnel on the occasion to ensure implementation of traffic laws with letter and spirit and educate the citizens about hazards of noise pollution. He said ITP had also engaged students of various schools and colleges to create awareness among the citizens to avoid from using pressure horns.
