The government of Sindh has reportedly nominated a Drug Inspector, an employee of the provincial health department, against a vacant post of member of Sindh Drug Court. Surprisingly, the said drug inspector is also engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of the drugs and medicines. The question is how come a drug inspector who appears as a prosecutor and contests the cases filed against the drug agencies/manufacturing companies allegedly dealing in fake/spurious drugs on behalf of the government can be the judge and at the same time appear as a prosecutor? Moreover a person who is also engaged in the medicine business himself cannot be appointed as the judge where cases of objectionable drugs and medicines are adjudicated. The Chief Minister has to look into the matter and nominate an independent and qualified person for the post of Member of drug Court as one cannot be the judge and the prosecutor at the same time.
