Mother, sister of joint secy killed in PIMS shootout

ISLAMABAD  – At least two women were killed in a mistaken armed attack at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) here late Saturday nigh, police said Sunday.
According to the police, the armed men barged into the VIP Ward of PIMS hospital where an under treatment accused of kidnapping for ransom, Rana Sarwar was admitted.
The attackers instead of attacking the accused mistakenly opened fire at innocent patients. Two women including a patient Saleh Bibi and her attendant Balqees Bibi were killed as a result of firing. The deceased were the mother and sister of Joint Secretary of Cabinet Division, Muhammad Ayyaz.
Soon after the incident, the accused fled from the scene.
It is worth mentioning here that four police cops were deployed for the security of the under treatment accused Rana Sarwar who failed to stop the culprits and they managed to flee unhurt after committing the crime.
The police have a registered a case against the accused and started the investigation.
Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has ordered an inquiry into the incident and asked the authorities to compile a report within next 24 hour.
“Investigate the matter as how the culprit entered into hospital with a loaded gun and gunned down two women and table the report within next 24 hours,” Rehman Malik directed a meeting of higher officials of Islamabad District including deputy Commissioner, Executive Director of PIMS and police officials of Islamabad capital Territory police.
On this occasion, the minister issued suspension order of relevant police officials and order the Chief Commissioner Islamabad to conduct a magisterial inquiry on the basis of preliminary report.
The police officials disclosed that the gunmen wanted to kill Rana Sarwat. However, the assailants targeted a wrong room and killed two woman mistakenly. Following the bone chilling incident of firing, a wave of fear and angered has gripped the attendants of PIMS. On the other hand, the incident has exposed the ineptness of the Islamabad capital police to avert incidents of murder in the high security zones.
