Rain adds further chill to life

LAHORE – Parts of the country including the City received rainfall of varying intensities on Sunday, increasing chill in weather by causing considerable decrease in the mercury level. The rains also brought the routine life to a standstill as the rainwater inundated on roads and roadsides.
 Inundated rainwater on roads, roadsides and slippery conditions caused frequent traffic jams in urban localities including the City throughout the day on Sunday. Experts have predicted the wet spell to continue during the next couple of days. In Lahore, the rains started Saturday night and continued intermittently with varying intensities till filing of this report Sunday night. Lahore received 11 mm rain. Intermittent rains coupled with overcast and windy conditions caused considerable decrease in the daytime temperature, increasing chill in weather.
People preferred to stay indoors on a holiday to save themselves from harsh weather conditions, decreasing vehicular rush on otherwise busy roads. Low gas pressure in various localities forced the Lahorites to switch on electricity heaters to keep the room warm. The heaviest rain of the current winter in the City caused inundation of rainwater on portions of roads and roadsides in various localities. Inundated rainwater on roadsides and slippery conditions added to the woes and miseries of motorists and pedestrians.
Massive traffic jams were witnessed on a number of important arteries till late at night. Ongoing construction work at the Canal Bank Road, Muslim Town Mor at Ferozepur Road, Shareey Fatima Jinnah and other arteries made the situation worst for the motorists and passerby. The inundated rainwater on roads with big potholes added to the miseries of motorists.
On Sunday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 13.3 degree Celsius and 3.8 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 87 per cent which increased to 94 per cent in the evening. According to the experts, westerly wave lies over upper parts of the country.
Local meteorological department has forecast cloudy weather with chances of more rains for the city during the next 24 hours. Met office has forecast rains with snowfall over the hilly areas for upper and central parts of the country.
