LAHORE – The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has launched research to develop the urban transport system and has produced one PhD in relevant field.

Maryam Wasif has completed her PhD thesis in Economics under the supervision of Prof Dr Sheikh Ghiasul Haq on the title “Urban Transport System of Lahore: A Comparative Analysis of Shift from Wagons to Franchise Buses in Lahore”.

Her work deals with Franchise Bus Policy, which if adopted and implemented by the Government of Punjab, would have the potential to satisfy passengers and also present them with a great alternative to wagons. It is also capable of reducing congestion and pollution in the city. Her recommendations for the Franchise Bus System, in this regard, can be considered as a step in the right direction.
