Security guard killed in Rs1.8m bank robbery

KARACHI - A security guard was killed and a police guard was wounded during a robbing bid in a bank in Orangi Town as bandits looted Rs1.8 million on Tuesday. According to details, police said that four bandits barged into the branch of United Bank Limited in Orangi Town while one bandit was waiting outside the bank. The bandits looted Rs1.8 million from the cash counter. When they tried to move towards the strong room, the security guard Shumal Khan and a police constable Asif Jamil tried to stop them. During the resistance, the bandits started indiscriminate firing and managed to escape from the scene. Resultantly, Shumal and Asif sustained bullet injuries. They were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced the death of Shumal and admitted Asif for treatment. Police said that the robbers did not bother to take away the CCTV footage.Police believed that the robbers completed their swift operation within three minutes. Police quoted the witnesses as saying that the culprits were speaking with each other in Pashto. No case has been registered till the filing of the report.Meanwhile, three people were killed including KMC driver in separate acts of violence in the city on Tuesday.A KMC driver was gunned down while another wounded in Qalandria Chowk, North Nazimabad within the remits of Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan police station. Police said that the victims namely Atta, 35, and Shabbir, 31, were returning from Sakhi Hassan graveyard after attended a funeral when some unidentified assailants sprayed bullets on them. Resultantly, they sustained multiple bullet injuries who were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Atta’s death and admitted Shabbir for treatment. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.A man was shot dead at Rasheedabad, North Nazimabad within the remits of Sir Syed police station. Police said that the victim Qadeem, 25, son of Anwar, was standing near a tea stall when some armed riders came close to him and opened fire. He sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. The body was shifted to ASH for autopsy and later handed over to heirs. Police said that the deceased was hailed from Pasheen, Balochistan and suspected that the motive behind the incident was personal enmity. Further investigation was underway.A bullet-riddled body of a man was found near Lee Market within the jurisdiction of Kharader police station. Police said that the deceased identified as Syed Husnain Raza, 30, son of Shaukat Raza was kidnapped by some unidentified culprits. Later they tortured and shot him multiple times before throwing the body at the said place. After getting information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Civil Hospital Karachi for postmortem and later handed over to his family.
