KARACHI - A follow-up meeting of the workshop on Self-Assessment Report organised by the Quality Enhancement Cell of the University of Karachi (KU) was held at the Arts Auditorium here on Tuesday.Quality Enhancement Cell Director Prof M Sajidin presented the progress report on implementation of Self Assessment Reports and appreciated the work done by the Departments of Commerce, Public Administration, International Relations, Sociology, Special Education, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Economics, Institutes of Environmental Studies, Clinical Psychology, Applied Economics Research Center, Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, KU Business School and Defense College of Business Education. He requested all the other departments and centers to introduce Self Assessment Reports as these could help increase the quality and standard of teaching and research. He remarked that although quality of education in public sector has suffered due to economic constraints and shift in priorities but there were strong expectation that quality assurance mechanism could ensure improvement in academic standards. Presiding over the meeting, KU Faculty of Arts Dean Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal Dean said that the globalization had created both challenges and opportunities in higher education. Today, he said, the quality assurance was linked to professional mobility and that was needed more effective mechanism for international integration process. He said that university was the recognition of the teachers who could play important role in raising the standard of research and studies. Dr Zafar Iqbal also appreciated the performance of the Quality Enhancement Cell and advised the teachers to own the university and its programmes including self assessment programme. The meeting ended with note of thanks by the Quality Enhancement Cell Director.
