KPK govt to organise sports events


PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced to organise a series of sports activities from next week (January 20) across the province. The announcement was made by the Provincial Minister for Sports, and Culture, Mehmood Jan, while addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday. Accompanied by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Culture Forum President, Saeed Mohammad and vice president Naveed Ahmad Afridi, he also informed that the government has planned various sports activities in coming weeks, according to which a first-ever 'Minister Sport Insaf T-20 Cricket Tournament' will be started from January 20 next week.  Similarly a provincial volleyball event Imran Khan Peace Cup will be organised from February 20 next month, he added. He said more than 16 teams across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata will participate in the week-long first-ever Minister Sport Insaf T-20 Cricket Tournament and more than 27 match will be played during the tournament.  He further said that winner team will get a cash prize of Rs.100,000 and runner-up will be given Rs. 50,000. He said the awards will be also given to the best players of the tournament. Both the winner and runner up teams, he said, will have opportunity to participate in national level 'All Pakistan tournament'. He said that PTI chief Imran Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak are expected to grace the concluding ceremony of the tournament. On the occasion, PTI Culture Forum President, Saeed Khan said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan Peace Cup will be held at Mundana Park in district Bannu, in which teams like Wadpa, Railways, Pak Army, Police and Habib Bank will also vie for the top honours. He informed the winner team will get a cash prize of Rs 100,000 and runner up Rs.70,000.–Staff Reporter
