ISLAMABAD - Minister of Interior Nisar Khan has said that despite implementation and coordination issues and resources constraints, the National Action Plan (NAP) has been pursued vigorously. There are number of stakeholders including federal government, provincial government and others; at times there are implementation and coordination issues and resources constraints, but despite all these limitations, NAP is being pursued through vigorous following and Ministry of Interior along with all other stakeholders is ensuring implementation of its all points, Nisar said in a reply to a question in the National Assembly.
He said that due to the ongoing military operation in Karachi, target killing, terrorism, and crime have registered a significant decline.
Answering a question of lawmaker Shahida Rehmani regarding objectives achieved under the National Action Plan, the minister said that in Karachi, target killing has been down by 53 percent, and murders have also come down to 50 percent, terrorism incidents have been down by 80 percent, extortion case have shown 56 percent reduction while robberies have posted 30 per cent cut.
Giving details of arrests made during the operation in Karachi, he said 69179 criminals have been arrested. Out of these arrested 890 were terrorists, 676 were proclaimed offenders, 10,426 were absconders. During the raids, 16,304 weapons were recovered. The military operation in Karachi is being conducted under Ministry of Interior and Sindh government.
He further stated that in Punjab, 825 hardcore elements were held, while cases against 78 firebrand speakers, and 649 facilitators were registered, he said.
Under Madrassa reforms, the mapping of madrassas of Capital and Punjab, has been completed under the agreed parameters, while in Sindh and Baluchistan 60 percent suspected Madrassas have been closed.
In Punjab two Madrassas have been closed, while in Sindh a total of 167 madaris, and in KPK 13 madaris have been closed down by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
In order to chok terrorism financing, 322 suspects were arrested in Hundi cases while Rs 356.56 million have been recovered in this regard.
Under the NAP, 933 URLs and 10 websites of organizations have been blocked by the Ministry of IT.
In order to resolve the issue of Afgan refugees, 21 Centers have been set up. In Punjab three, Sindh one, KPK 12, while five have been set up at Baluchistan by NADRA to register undocumented Afghan refugees.
Replying to another question, the minister said that during the last three years a total of 969 terrorists were killed, while 476 were killed during 2015.
