QILA DIDAR SINGH-As many as 63 deserving couples tied the knot at a mass wedding ceremony organised under the auspices of Al-Madina Foundation here at Taj Marriage Hall on Sunday. The foundation also provided dowry worth Rs150,000 and gold jewellery to each bride. The ceremony was attended by thousands of people from Qila Didar Singh and adjoining areas. The foundation had arranged meal for all the attendees. Talking to The Nation, Al-Madina Foundation patron-in-chief Riaz Ahmed Ponia said that the foundation has been arranging mass wedding functions for the last six years. "If God wills, we will arrange a mass wedding ceremony next year for at least 100 couples," he said. Local notables including ex-MNA Haji Mudassar Qayyum Nahra, Hafiz Ehsanullah, Nabeel Riaz Ponia, Fiaz Ahmed Ponia and mediamen were also present on the occasion.


People suffer due to ongoing development work on Hafizabad Road. According to locals, the work has been going on for the last six months. They said that they are becoming patients of respiratory diseases due to dust in the environment caused by the work. They said that the work has been causing severe traffic jams in the area. They demanded the authorities concerned look into the matter and resolve their problem at the earliest.


A minor girl was hospitalised after she consumed chemical from a cold drink bottle. Amna, 5, daughter of Ishaq, resident of Kot Ishaq, erroneously consumed toxic chemical from a cold drink bottle. The girl thought that it would be a cold drink in the cold drink bottle. She was rushed to hospital for treatment.
