Five security men killed in Turbat attack

Quetta - Five security men were killed and six others wounded when their convoy came under attack by armed assailants in Balochistan’s Kech district on Monday.

The vehicle carrying lawmen was ambushed by militants in Shapok area of Turbat. One of the vehicles of security forces convoy turned turtle. Five security personnel were killed and six more sustained injuries.

A contingent of security personnel rushed to the area and shifted the dead and injured to a nearby hospital. The law enforcement agencies also launched search operation to apprehend the culprits.

In a separate incident, Lahore-bound Akbar Bugti Express escaped a disaster near Dera Murad Jamali Railway Station when a planted explosive device went off damaging the railway track.

“The train was about to arrive when the explosive device went off which luckily caused no loss to human lives,” said SSP Mir Hussain Ahmed Lehri.

He said Akbar Bugti Express was halted after the incident took place and Bolan Mail was parked at Notal Railway Station.

Repair work was launched to resume train operations on emergency basis, SSP Hussain Ahmed said. Train operations would be restored after rehabilitation of the damaged track, said railway sources.

Meanwhile, in a separate crackdown, the law enforcement agencies personnel apprehended a key operative of a banned outfit in Quetta.

According to police, the CTD carried out a successful operation in Quetta’s suburban areas and netted leader of a proscribed organization Sher Lehri whose had Rs1million as head money. The operative have been involved in various terrorism activities and blasts.

Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qadus Bizenjo expressed grief over the martyrdom of security men.

He strongly condemned the terror attack and said such acts meant to disrupt development would be foiled.

The chief minister said ulterior motives of anti-state elements would be foiled with the unflinching resolve of security forces and their sacrifices wouldn’t go wasted.

Bizenjo also expressed satisfaction over a successful action of CTD for netting a commander of a proscribed organisation.
