Zainab murder: SC summons investigation team on Jan 21

Supreme Court has summoned the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in Zainab murder case on January 21. 

Three-member bench led by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar started the hearing of suo moto case today. Additional Inspector General of Punjab police appeared before the court today. 

During the hearing chief justice remarked that there is no apparent progress in case the case yet. "If this case will not resolve, it will be failure of police and government," he said. 

The Attorney General told the court that over 1,000 suspects have been question during the investigation so far. "If there is any update you can tell us in our chambers," remarked CJP. 

Meanwhile AIG told the court that 8 cases of similar nature have happened in last one and half year in Kasur. 

Furthermore, the CJP stopped Lahore High Court from hearing the case stating that high courts don't hold authority of suo moto action. 

Seven-year-old Zainab was kidnapped on January 4 from near her relative's house in Kasur. Her dead body was found from a garbage pile on January 9. The autopsy report revealed that minor was sexually assaulted before strangled.
