A news report says Turkish troops have killed 22 Kurdish rebels in clashes in southeastern Turkey. The media says the clashes occurred on Mount Kato, in the predominantly Kurdish province of Sirnak which borders Iraq. The report says a village guard armed and paid by the government to help troops fight the rebels was also killed in the violence on Friday. There was no immediate confirmation of the fatalities, which would be the highest Kurdish rebel death toll in clashes in Turkey in recent weeks.
