Govt barred from raising power tariff

LAHORE - Justice Khalil Ahmad of the Lahore High Court on a petition of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has restrained federal government from taking any final decision about increasing power tariff till September 15. The court has also sought reply from federal government, NEPRA, WAPDA and LESCO. The association pleaded that previously National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) used to consult it before increasing power tariff but later the authorities started increasing the tariff without any prior intimation or consultation. The petitioner said this time again the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) without any consultation was going to increase power tariff and a summary had also been forwarded to the federal government in this regard. The petitioner prayed the court to restrain the govt from increasing power tariff which, according to it, will cause serious loss to country's industry.
