ISLAMABAD- Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Amir Hamza Gillani has said that PSB would monitor the performance of the national sports federations which are getting the annual grant from the government regularly. He was talking to The Nation on Tuesday in his office. He said that the annual grant should be disbursed among the active federations on their pervious performance. "We have very limited resources for the sports and we should enhance the financial support of energetic federations. We cannot compare Pakistan with India, which is spending mammoth budget on sports. The high ups of the sports bodies should also play role in meeting the challenges instead of looking towards government for huge grants, which is not possible," he added. "The camps for the forth coming mega sports events of the world including Beijing Olympics 2008, Asian Beach Games 2008 and Commonwealth Youth Games 2008 will be organised under the control of the PSB. We are providing all available facilities to our athletes during the camps including international standard coaching facilities," he added. Responding to a question, Hamza said that there was need to insert new blood in sports instead of depending on overage players. "We will have to hunt the talent from the remote areas and to provide them required standard of coaching and infrastructure to move ahead. The PSB is also focusing to build new infrastructure across the country," he viewed. Ami Hamza Gillani further said that the all sports bodies should be accountable. "However, there is need to follow a system to stream-line the sports affairs. Our sports standard is going down and we should not look at South Asian games. Our target should be at least Asian Games and Commonwealth Games to boost the national standard of sports," he concluded.
