The police are citizens in uniform but there is a lot of mistrust between citizens in uniform and common citizens. This mistrust has led to non-cooperation which has proved to be a problem in controlling of crime and maintenance of law and order. The police often complain of low level support by the citizens, while the citizens complain of police corruption. It is imperative that a strategy should be devised by the authorities to bridge the gap between the police and common citizens. If the trust and cooperation level is improved, it will lay down the groundwork for any future effort to curtail the deteriorating security situation of the country. HASSAN BASHIR, Islamabad, July 11.
